The release plan follows consultation with the SES and local communities.The main flood peak along the lower Darling River downstream of Menindee is currently at Pooncarie, where moderate flooding is peaking, and the river level is likely to remain elevated into mid February. At Burtundy, major flooding is occurring and further rises are possible.Further upstream, the river level along the Darling River at Wilcannia fell below the minor flood level on Thursday.River levels along the Darling River are likely to remain elevated between Burtundy and Wentworth into February. This will impact surrounding communities with road closures and isolated rural properties likely.Current and predicted flows in the Darling River are not likely to cause river level rises at Wentworth. Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning
DetailsThe Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:40 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Dooralong, the Singleton district and Paxton. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Charlestown, Branxton and Swansea by 5:10 pm and Newcastle City, Maitland, Belmont and Cessnock by 5:40 pm.Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.
